News just announced today, Knott's MonteZOOMa:
The Forbidden Fortress could open in 2026.
One of Knott's Berry Farm's most iconic roller coasters, Now known as MonteZOOMa: The Forbidden Fortress , could open this year, according to the company press release issued Tuesday Feb. 3rd 2026.
In a release outlining Six Flags Entertainment Corp.'s enhancements to it's Gold Pass, officials listed MonteZOOMa: The Forbidden Fortress as "new" for 2026,
Montezooma's Revenge, which opened in 1978, has been closed since 2022. Knott's announced a major overhaul in 2024 but shared few detail at the time.
The updated version, renamed MonteZOOMa: The Forbidden Fortress, was set to anchor the redesigned Fiesta Village,
The coaster has long been a favorite among thrill-seekers and is designated a landmark by the American Coaster Enthusiasts. The group recognizes MonteZOOMa as the last operating ride of it's kind in the United States and the longest-standing in it's original location.
Only 51 roller coasters worldwide carry the ACE landmark designation.
Last year, the park confirmed that the signature loop for the reimagined coaster had been installed.
According to Knott's, the ride "catapults passengers out of the station at 55 miles per hour, up through the 76 foot, 360-degree loop, and then to the top of the 148-foot tower.
After a moment of weightlessness, the train zooms down the tower backward, goes through the loop and passes through the station upa second 112-foot tower before returning to the station."
I wonder what the new train cars will look like as the front car was donated to the National Roller Coaster Museum in Texas along with the original loop track.
I have heard that they did away with the flywheel that used to shoot the coaster off. as I think they will be using a magnetic launch system for the coaster.
Back in 1978 I was 13 years old in August, My two older brothers tried to get me to ride it. (as my 1st Loop coaster) I said I would try it, after I tried riding the Corkscrew roller coaster that was in the Roaring 20's section" and If I survived that I would then ride Montezooma's Revenge. I sure do miss riding it. But now I am 60 yrs. old, Not sure my body can do it. lol
