Update on Knott's Berry Farm's Famous Shuttle Loop Coaster MontaZOOMa Forbidden Fortress #207

Reimagined “MonteZOOMa: The Forbidden Fortress” Coming to Knott’s Berry Farm in 2023

Cedar Fair announced the plans for the historic Montezooma’s Revenge coaster at Knott’s Berry Farm. The park is “reimagining” the historic coaster as “MonteZOOMa: The Forbidden Fortress.” The updated ride will have an immersive storyline and new surprise thrills for its riders.

The New MonteZOOMa!

In the press release, Knott’s said that the “new updates allow guests to be completely surprised by the direction the train will take them at the start of each ride. The randomized launch sequence will make it impossible for anyone to know their destiny until it is too late to escape the clutches of Montezooma.”

The new theme is that guests are trying to escape with Montezooma’s gold. The rethemed queue is the “Forbidden Fortress” part of the new name.  You’ll have to  “beware of the countless boobytraps within” as you make your way past “a macabre history exhibit as treasure hunters’ remains from throughout the ages line the walls.”

The classic Montezooma’s Revenge was the last Scwharzkopf Shuttle Loop coaster operating in the US. The ride closed back in February to start its major renovation. Pieces of the ride have been steadily removed, so although we don’t know a lot of details yet we know there will be no parts in place. Check out the video below from America’s Coaster Network of some of the removed pieces of the classic ride.

I want to add, that Montezuma's Revenge was my 2nd loop coaster that I had ever rode. Please watch my video on my podcast on @YouTube https://youtu.be/_FGwSQNY7kA

Beware there are some curse words as I wanted to give you the feeling of riding it for the 1st time.

Fiesta Village Refresh

Alongside the coaster changes, the whole Fiesta Village is getting a makeover. According to the park, “Fiesta Village will be completely revitalized to further celebrate all the Hispanic cultural influences present in Southern California.”

Fiesta Village will reopen with three new “zones” in the area, new food locations, an updated stage, and a redesigned marketplace. Casa California is tranforming into a completely different dining location with made to order tacos and burritos.

The former La Papa Loca location will become Cantina Del Sur, a one-stop shop for specialty beverages. Also in this new zone will be an open street market inspired by the likes of Los Angeles’ Olvera Street.

Lastly, at the boardwalk entrance to Fiesta Village you’ll enter a zone filled with “magical alebrijes.” These brightly colored mythical creatures will take over the landscape and transport guests to a dream world inspired by Mexican folklore. While enjoying the scenery, guests can also fulfill their Mexican street food craving at the new taco stand-influenced location Taqueria Fiesta.

Knott’s Berry Farm Hotel Upgrades

Lastly, the Knott’s Berry Farm Hotel is getting a major update. The press release described “every aspect of the Knott’s Berry Farm Hotel will be transformed, from common areas such as the lobby and the pool area to conference rooms and a new outdoor banquet venue designed to elevate the experience for both corporate and leisure groups alike.””
